The government of Jordan has officially launched a tender for the development of a 200 MW solar power project, marking another major step in the country’s transition toward renewable energy.
According to the official tender invitation, the selected developer will be responsible for the design, financing, construction, commissioning, ownership, operation, and maintenance of the solar power facility. The project will operate under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, with a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) ranging from 20 to 25 years.
The project will be connected to a specific location designated by Jordan’s energy authorities, with exact site details to be disclosed to the successful bidder.
Following selection, the chosen developer will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR). This MoU will authorize the developer to conduct measurement campaigns, feasibility studies, and grid integration plans necessary for the project's connection to the national transmission network.
The tender process begins with an Expression of Interest (EOI) phase. Interested parties must submit their applications both electronically and in hard copy to MEMR by July 15. Registration with the ministry is also a mandatory requirement for all applicants.
As of the end of last year, Jordan's total installed solar capacity reached 2,077 MW, up from 1,990 MW the previous year, according to data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
This new tender highlights Jordan’s ongoing commitment to sustainable energy and its ambition to further expand solar power as a key component of the national energy mix.
